Begin with the prayer below, then go to the prayer for the day.
God of wisdom and mercy, grant us patience to listen; compassion to be open to other views and opinions; generosity to forgive and grace to change. As you taught us to love our dear neighbor, we pray that you give us strength to be healing instruments of unity and reconciliation.
Day 8: Sunday, January 26
God of hope, comfort those seeking asylum in the U.S. Help them find a path forward. Guide Americans and their representatives to recognize the difference between defending borders and compassionately welcoming the stranger.
Day 9: Monday, January 27
Today I pray for the experts and professionals in their fields serving the U.S. Federal government. May their expertise be valued and protected, especially when it stands in opposition to political power.
Day 10: Tuesday, January 28
Holy Spirit, inspire creative ideas and decisions to make goods and services affordable to all people. Enlighten us to bring down inflation so that food, shelter, energy, transportation, child care and health care are accessible.
Day 11: Wednesday, January 29
Today I pray for a just peace for all those suffering from war, and may powerful nations respect the sovereign borders of their brother and sister nations.
Day 12: Thursday, January 30
Today I pray for Capitol Police who paid a high price for defending elected officials from a law-breaking mob. Holy Spirit, soften the hearts of both sides of police lines to avert violence and find unity and reconciliation with each other.
Day 13: Friday, January 31
King of kings, protect the majority from exploitation at the hands of a few powerful people. May Your wisdom guide industry leaders to lift people up rather than profiteering at their expense.
Day 14: Saturday, February 1
Today I pray for victims of fire, floods and wind. Restore their lives with a place to live that is safe from natural disasters super-charged by a changing climate.
God, reveal how to care for each other by caring for our common home.
